About Debbie
Debbie is an actress, an author, an altruist, a writer, a producer, a content creator and a voice artist. She has enjoyed a successful career in television and theatre. She is the only actress in the UK- or maybe even the world – who has appeared in 2 soaps at the same time for 6 months….and every major UKTV soap in the last 30 years as a regular character. Currently, she is seen weekly in her online show ‘Wonderbirds’ which she created and produced with her friend Dee Anderson. She also created ‘Beauty Angels’ with Linda Lusardi which then metamorphosised into ‘Beauty Investigates’ again created by Debbie produced by Debbie and Dee and starring Debbie and Debbie McGee.
Debbie is a regular contributor to ITV’s Good Morning Britain, This Morning, The Jeremy Vine Show, GB news, BBC’s Newsnight and many other current affairs and news programmes.
Debbie started her career in television as an impressionist in ‘Now Who Do You Do’ and went on to appear in the most iconic comedy and drama programmes of the ’80s, ’90s and ’00s! Apart from her soap career – (she was the first Branning in ‘Eastenders’ in the late 90’s and her last appearance in ‘Coronation Street’ was in 2014 playing Carole the landlady of the Weatherfield Arms) she has worked with some of the most legendary comedians and actors in the business. Ronnie Barker wrote a character especially for her in ‘The Two Ronnies’ – Voluptua Goodbody who was an amalgamation of all his fantasies! Most recently shes played mum to Lee Ridley in the new Radio 4 series ‘Ability’ (where she played a Geordie for the first time in her career which is very odd as she comes from Sunderland!) and grandma in the new BBC series Lagging.
Her theatrical record is even more impressive – she has done many national UK and worldwide tours, appeared at The Royal Court, National Theatre and of course the West End where she has appeared at the Trafalgar Theatre,The Palladium, The Strand and her favourite theatre the Haymarket – where she starred opposite Omar Sharif in ‘The Sleeping Prince’ which she received many awards and accolades. The show began at Chichester and toured the UK before coming into town. Recently Debbie appeared in ‘Calendar Girls’ for her friend Sally Hughes at the acclaimed Mill at Sonning.
